MP encourages villages to set up social enterprises

The deadline for the Big Lottery Fund’s Village SOS scheme is fast approaching!

The scheme awards grants of between £10,000 and £50,000 to rural communities, with a population of less than 3,000 people, who are aiming to set up new social enterprises.

Applications must be submitted by 2pm on 12th September 2012.

Village SOS has already supported shops, cafes, pubs, transport schemes and many more. The scheme aims to breathe new life into village areas and boost rural pride.

The Village SOS programme is supported by leaders in the rural enterprise sector – Plunkett Foundation, Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE), Co-operatives UK and Locality.

Gordon Henderson, MP for Sittingbourne and Sheppey said:

“There are a large number of villages in my constituency that might be eligible for funding from this scheme. They are the backbone of Sittingbourne and Sheppey.

“However, many rural communities are suffering from the current recession, so I would urge such villages to submit an application to revitalise their area!”
