£10,000 awarded to help keep Swale Safe

28th August 2012
£10,000 awarded to help keep Swale Safe

Gordon Henderson MP has welcomed a £10,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund, which will help to prevent crime in Swale.

The grant has been awarded to Swale Safe, an organisation that in partnership with Kent Police and Swale Borough Council provides security radios to shops for use when they believe a crime is being committed on their premises or in the surrounding area. The radios are also used in pubs to report anti-social behaviour.

The £10,000 grant will be used to buy updated digital transmitters and radios for its community safety and protection service for the wider community.

Mr Henderson said,

“I know from personal experience that the Swale Safe system works; helping relatives and publicans to pass on information about shoplifting and other crime.

“This grant will allow Swale Safe to extend its cover to more rural communities and that has to be welcomed.”
