MP welcomes finance support information for students

Local MP, Gordon Henderson has welcomed further information available for students applying for University in 2012/13 onwards to help them understand the new student finance package.

According to the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills, students need to have access to more accurate and detailed information so that they can fully understand the financial support available to them. To work towards this aim, BIS has:

• Worked with the Universities Marketing Forum and Universities UK to provide information
• Published further information about how the new funding scheme will work on the BIS website -
• Directed students to the main Government website, Directgov, for help and advice
Produced a flyer designed to provide the essential facts
• Developed a more detailed Frequently Asked Questions section on the BIS website
• Worked with the Student Loans Company to ensure information is available at UCAS conventions

BIS have also been given the go-ahead to start a new marketing campaign which will deliver information via social-networking websites, mobile applications and radio stations.

Mr Henderson said,

“Following the changes to university tuition fees, many students may have been put off in applying for universities from 2012/13 and this is something we need to make sure does not happen.

“The Department for Business, Innovation & Skills are working hard to provide all the information they can on financial support so I urge students in Sittingbourne and Sheppey to read it carefully before they reject their ambitions of obtaining a degree.”
