Press Release - 29.04.09

29th April 2009
Good news for Railway Tavern campaigners.

Campaigners fighting to save the last remaining pub in Barrow Green have received a boost with news that Enterprise Inns have removed the covenant restricting the any new owner from keeping it open as a pub.

Local residents were supported in their campaign by Conservative Parliamentary Candidate, Gordon Henderson, who wrote to the Chief Operating Officer of Enterprise Inns, Simon Townsend, asking the company to remove the restrictive covenant.

This week Mr Henderson received a reply from Mr Townsend confirming that the sale of the Railway Tavern will go ahead without any covenants attached.

Mr Henderson said:

‘I am absolutely delighted. It really looks as if the Railway Tavern is to be saved. If my letter helped to tip the balance, it only did so because of the pressure applied by local residents.

‘I congratulate all those who have campaigned so hard to be allowed to keep their local pub, including local councillor, Trevor Fentiman.

‘I look forward to being one of the Railway Tavern’s first customers when it eventually opens under new owners.’
