MP praises St John Ambulance
Local MP Gordon Henderson has praised St John Ambulance full time staff and volunteers for their dedication and professionalism.
Mr Henderson’s comments followed a visit to the headquarters of the Sittingbourne St John Ambulance Adult Division, where he met volunteers and was shown the division’s new ambulance, the purchase of which was made possible through public donations and support from several local organisations including the Rotary Club, retailers Gerald Lukehurst and the Co-Operative Society.
During his visit Mr Henderson was presented with one of the limited edition model ambulances that were used as part of the fund raising exercise that helped contribute towards the purchase of the new ambulance.
Mr Henderson said:
“I am full of admiration for the St John Ambulance. Its members provide a vital first aid service at many sporting and other events. They undertake their tasks with a dedication and professionalism that belies their voluntary status.
“St John Ambulance also provides an important back up service for the regular ambulance service, not only transporting patients to hospital, but often taking part in emergency situations when the regular service is particularly stretched.
“In heaping praise on St John Ambulance I suppose I should declare an interest. My granddad was a member of St John and although he died when I was young, I can still picture him in the St John uniform that he wore with such pride.”
