Gordon wades into Postbus row

Tory parliamentary hopeful Gordon Henderson says a bus service could replace Kent’s last Postbus.

The Royal Mail plans to scrap the Wormshill to Sittingbourne run in four weeks time despite support from villagers.

Sittingbourne and Sheppey Conservative candidate Mr Henderson is one of a number of people who wrote to the Royal Mail asking it to postpone cancellation of the Postbus while an alternative is found. He received a negative response.

Mr. Henderson said:

‘I am very disappointed with the Royal Mail and I will continue to pursue the request by villagers to postpone cancellation of the service. In the meantime I have been having discussions behind the scenes with potential bus operators.

‘I am hopeful that should Kent County Council put out a tender document to allow funding for an alternative bus service, as they promised to do at a meeting with villagers in Frinsted last month, then local bus companies will be interested in tendering to provide a bus service for at least three days a week.

‘I know that is not as good as the Postbus, but it is something.’
