MP objects to two proposed mineral extraction sites

Gordon Henderson has objected to the proposal for mineral extraction at two sities in his constituency. The proposals have been made as part of Kent County Council’s Mineral and Waste Sites Development Plan.

Mr Henderson’s objection to mineral extraction at Barbary Farm, near Faversham and Barrow Green Farm, Teynham was because, if selected, the sites would generate a significant increase in the number of lorries using the local and surrounding roads.

A consultation exercise by Kent County Council is currently taking place until 19th December 2011 for local residents and businesses to submit their comments on the proposed sites.

Mr Henderson said,

“As soon as I heard there could be around 200 daily lorry movements at each of the proposed mineral extraction sites I immediately submitted my objection to Kent County Council.

“Traffic on the A2 is already making life a nightmare for local residents without adding to the number of daily lorry movements.”
