1st February 2011
MP supports flood protection exhibition

Local MP Gordon Henderson is supporting a flood protection exhibition which will provide an opportunity for constituents to find out more about the risk of flooding and what they can do to protect themselves.

More than 11,500 properties in Sittingbourne and Sheppey are at some risk from flooding, making it a key location for Exercise Watermark, a national flood exercise programme.

The National Flood Forum is staging the flood protection exhibition on 9th February 2011 between 3pm – 7:30pm at Merlin’s Entertainment Complex, 47 Leysdown Road, Leysdown, Me12 4RB. Entry is free of charge.

The exhibition will include:

• Advice from experts on protecting homes and businesses
• A chance to see flood defence equipment and manufacturers
• An opportunity to talk to people who manage flood risk, rescue and recovery
• How to make a flood plan and flood kit

Mr Henderson said,

“Although the risk of flooding in our area is very small, it is still something of which residents should be aware and I would urge anybody who is concerned about flooding to visit Merlin’s to find out more about the level of risk we face.”
