Gordon pledges support for our Armed Forces

Local Conservative Parliamentary Candidate, Gordon Henderson, has signed up to show support for the British Legion manifesto petition and is urging local residents to follow his lead.

Mr Henderson has also pledged to support the whole Armed Forces family beyond the next General Election, should he be elected next May.

The British Legion’s on-line manifesto petition reads: “We, the undersigned, petition all the political party leaders to do their bit for the whole Armed Forces family and commit to adopting The Royal British Legion's Manifesto calls."

The petition can be found at:

Mr Henderson said:

“During the past couple of weeks the whole nation has been remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

“Almost every night our television screens remind us of the terrible price still being paid by members of our Armed Forces in Afghanistan.

“Brave men and women are being killed and wounded in a war being fought in some of the most inhospitable conditions imaginable.

“Too often, once members of the Armed Services are discharged they are quickly forgotten by those who sent them into battle. It is organisations such as the British Legion and SSAFA that pick up the pieces of what are often broken lives.

“I have pledged that I will do whatever I can to support our Armed Forces should I be elected at the next General Election and I urge members of the public to follow my lead and sign the British Legion on-line manifesto petition.”
