MP visits Re:bourne
LOCAL MP, Gordon Henderson, has congratulated local artists who contributed to the two day Re:bourne community arts festival that was held in Sittingbourne High Street last weekend and praised local residents for the enthusiastic way in which they took part in the activities that had been laid on.
Mr Henderson and his wife, Louise, visited the Swale Borough Council sponsored festival on Saturday and spent a couple of hours enjoying some of the activities and performances.
The festival was sponsored by Swale Borough Council and organised by two creative arts companies, Nimble Fish and Workers of Art, with help from local community groups, including the Swale Arts Forum.
Mr Henderson said:
“Despite the wet weather the festival was well supported and it was good to see the way that local residents, particularly youngsters, took part in the activities that had been laid on.
“I would like to congratulate all the artists and performers who took part. We are lucky to have some very talented people in our area and this was an excellent opportunity to showcase their work.
“I was particularly impressed with the way in which vacant shops and rarely used alleyways were transformed into art workshops and exhibitions.
“Swale Borough Council should be congratulated for engaging with the public and trying to bring back some pride to the town. I hope that we see something similar on Sheppey next year.”
